Ethics and Antibiotics

One response to “Ethics and Antibiotics

  1. 80% of antibiotics are used in the animal husbandry industry. Since the antibiotics pass out of the animal in its “wastes”, and these wastes are not contained very well, the consequence is that bacteria develop immunity to the antibiotics. It not the “people doctors” who are the problem, it is the “animal doctors” who prescribe these antibiotics. And the “animal husbandry” industry is extremely powerful in rural areas so most politicians elected from these areas are Republicans.

These facts have been known for a long time, but because of the political power the industry has, it is unlikely anything can be done.
