    The electoral college favors the small states over the larger ones. This dates back to the concerns that the smaller states had about the relative powers of each state and its role in Presidential elections. This was one of the methods used to balance out the political power of the states. It does give a small state voter a bit more power over who gets elected President than a strict popular vote system would give.
